Where’s Will – My last journey to Scotland in 2021
sider

Flexxilease employee William delivers and tests our vehicles, often choosing unusual and unconventional routes if it saves time and money. In this blog, Will discusses his last trip of 2021 to Scotland!

We all look to wind down during Christmas and New Year but at Flexxilease we’re always on standby to help and support our customers, new and old, whatever the challenge.

With Will in Newcastle upon Tyne socialising for the weekend we interrupted his fun to ask him to get to Golspie, 52 miles Northeast of Inverness and home to our furthest North customer. Unique circumstance dictated they needed to exit their contract early with just two weeks left to run but, more critically, could we collect the car ASAP!

We managed to get Will on a train to Inverness and, as a bonus given it took over 5 hours from Newcastle, we put him up in the River Ness Hotel, part of the Radisson Individuals estate for just £48. Fuelled by a wonderful burger and a sneaky pint at Scotch & Rye on Queensgate all was going swimmingly until two messages hit in quick succession. First one was that his 7am train to Golspie on Monday was cancelled and the next train didn’t leave until 10.45am and, secondly, the car for collection now had to be delivered to a new customer in Aberdeen by 5pm.

A much-needed lie-in and a fantastic Scottish breakfast at the Rendezvous Café set him up for what was going to be a long day given he now had to make the 6.15pm train from Aberdeen back to Newcastle!

The run to Golspie along the coast and against the backdrop of a murky but haunting vista made for some beautiful scenery blighted only by a ‘Loch Park’ of oil rigs but more than balanced by sight of famous distilleries at Invergordon and Glenmorangie.

Quick turnaround in Golspie with the perfect client; Peugeot 2008, immaculate inside and out, fully fuelled and a bottle of water in the cupholder for Will’s onward expedition to the Granite City.

It’s a 3.5-hour jaunt to Aberdeen along the A9 and A96 and just before darkness set in there was time to pass more famous distilleries including Strathisla, home to the World-renowned Chivas Regal.

Our client in Aberdeen is a fantastic charity working in very challenging circumstances, but they found time to drop Will to the train station ensuring that he made his train back to Newcastle with yet another boxset to distract.

12 hours on trains and 156 miles driven but another wonderful visit to Scotland and two very happy customers.
